Teams in Later Development Stages Are More Productive Than Those in Earlier Ones
Teams in Challenging Times
When teams go through difficult or demanding periods – whether due to external pressures or internal challenges – stress often appears in different ways. Communication may break down, new members might disrupt established routines, or key team members may leave.
Assessing the Team’s Current Stage
Using GDQ © (Group Development Questionnaire), we help the team identify which stage of group development they are currently in. Each member completes a short questionnaire that takes around ten minutes. The results are then analysed by a Certified GDQ © Consultant, who compiles a detailed report of the team’s current situation.
Training and Feedback
Together with the team, we go through the research behind GDQ ©. Through practical examples, the team gains insight into the validated theories on group development stages, typical behaviours in each stage, and how to progress to the next, more productive stage. The team then reviews its own results and identifies its current development stage.
Action Plan and Coaching
At Walking Talking, we work closely with the team to create an action plan that supports conscious, collective progress. The goal is to move beyond phases dominated by conflict and inefficiency towards greater productivity and collaboration.
Long-Term Support – Habits That Last
Many team activities are one-off events that quickly fade from focus. We ensure that new sustainable habits are established to help the team continue working on its action plan, share information more effectively, and give every member a voice.
Priorities and Balance
In an ideal world, everyone would feel physically and mentally well, with clear priorities and balanced use of time. In reality, it’s not always easy to know what to prioritise. Work and personal life are deeply connected – when one falters, the other suffers. By matching colleagues in Walk & Talk sessions, we help individuals find wellbeing, clarity, and a sense of belonging, which in turn supports the team’s overall development process.
